Great game

I don't review often so oughta make this good

I really like this game because, unlike a lot of flash games out there, it brings a totally new concept, and it was pretty well executed. The game really makes you think before you move. The art was simple but overall efficient. Oh and THANK YOU for checkpoints :p

As much as I like the concept, I think the game could use a lot more polish. There are a few things that bugged me, that you could take in consideration if you rework this (or in a future project) :

- Sometimes, the invisibility bar would overlap some of the obstacles on the ceiling (motion detectors)
- I think the air control is too sharp; you shouldn't be able to move as swiftly while jumping as when you're on the ground (imo)
- WASD support would have been nice, for people who like to keep a hand on the mouse as they play
- Smileys in instructions make the game look a bit... un-professional

These are just tips, take them as you wish!
All in all it's a great game, that I'll most definitely play again (once I forget how the levels go), challenging, creative, fun. I hope to see more games from you in the future. Three thumbs up!

AethosGames responds:

Funny you should mention the invisibility bar... I was trying to think of a better way to dispay it on the screen without it being to intrusive to gameplay. I'll probably have it fade away in the next game, and re-appear when you use it.

controls are going to be fine-tuned for the next game. I've only been making games for seven months, so I'm still a newb at this.

I regret the smiley. Period.

Thanks for the tips, I look at everyones reviews to make the next game better.

Severely lacking

There was no variation between levels at all. I had no motivation to kill the enemies so I just skipped most of them. Some randomly jumped into gaps or down platforms where they couldn't reach me. The controls felt very sloppy; the exagerated movement during the strikes often left me where I didn't want to be.

Most of the time you had to jump down to progress, you couldn't see the terrain below, and that even with the (very annoying) constantly-zooming cam. It's really annoying to jump down a platform, thinking you're on the right path, only to fall down a hole and die.

As for Bowser, it looked a lot like you rushed that part. The purple lightning effect when bowser stomped was just atrocious, and the way you made it so Bowser wouldn't fall down was just lazy. I also got stuck during the fight between the short wall and Bowser, and wasn't able to do anything at all but take every one of his fireball in the face.

So overall, not a good game, not extremely bad, as it has potential, but it lacks polish. I recommend you spend more time on the HUD next time.

Wow, what a great tutorial

Hey, next time, you might as well directly link to the AS: Main topics where you took the code from, since the code is already explained in these, and people actually know what the fuck they're talking about!

And now for some CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM so that you fuckers might let this review live :

- The music didn't loop, if you're going to use complete songs, at least make a selection, otherwise use a constant loop (which can be turned off)

- Write the code yourself instead of taking it from AS: Main (check the forum topic named "AS: MAIN" before you delete my review you dumb fucks)

- Give proper instructions, and if you don't know what the code means, don't try to explain; "hour = myDate.getHours() - gets hours from your PC clock - getMinutes() - gets minutes from your PC clock - getSeconds() - get sec-" Yes we get it

- Also in the clock tutorial, you need to add a "0" if the minutes or seconds is only 1 digit, otherwise it looks like shit (10:5:3 isn't a real clock)

i cant bite it

I can't bite it im stock at leveule wane, wate is de alt code for "L"?? you gotta dink dat some ppl dont haf speshial karaterz on there keburds

Amazing

I remember when I used to post on the Flash BBS, you always seemed to be one of the "l337" coders. Now I see what king of games you can create with that knowledge

It's a really fun game, and it's the first time I see that kind of engine programmed with flash, so I must say I'm really impressed. I liked it, my only complaint is that in level 2 or 3, I had been pushing my rock down a few slopes, and we fell in a hole, but I was ahead of it so it made me restart the level...

Apart from that, really awesome game

Btw, is that AS3?

dELtaluca responds:

:P

yes it was AS3 from Flash 9 public alpha, before CS3 came out.

Awesome

I can't believe it, I didn't know Flash could pull such awesome stuff. Keep up the good work

Are you still working on this?

This is truly great, and to be honest, it motivated me to make flash games a while ago. Are you still making it? Do you still need help with the Actionscript? Because if so, I can help. I'd really like to see this completed.

Leigh responds:

If you mean that well then paint me flattered.

Yes I am working on it. I just added another guy to the project and I think it's finally going to get off the ground, and when it does I think I can promise something great.

Awesome again!

When I saw the first, I was impressed, but, WHOA! Then you come up with this! It is just amazing! A great piece of art!

I liked the details like the fact you could change the character's head, or emotion, as you said. I thought the brightness slider was really cool and well scripted. The backgrounds were pretty and detailed, and added a fun touch to the game, while the interface, which was quite subtle, faded well into the game.

As for the audio, it's great! You all made those songs by yourself, right? They're good and make a funny mix with the character's dance moves. Serious music and stupid dancing moves? Good match.

I liked it, keep it up.

Awesome

This is perfect, it kept me playing for hours, DAYS even! Well, actually, seconds. But whatever!

Awful.

You obviously don't know Flash enough to make a decent tutorial. The interface was crap, and so were the graphics. Badly explained, your tutorials were not helpful at all.

You tried to draw Flash's interface, why not just take a screenshot instead?

You kept saying "I know mine is not good but...", then why submit? If you know it was not good, why the hell did you leave it this way?

Anyway, before thinking about making another tutorial, learn how to make Flash. And by that, I mean learn more than the basics. And don't create a tutorial about stuff you can't do, like you did with "Easy Game" and "Walking".

Hi-dud responds:

everyone is retarded. I said this is a tutorial for beginners, that meens beginners! By the way, your tutorial is crap. who the hell wants to know how to make a planet? I think like 1 in a million people are actually going to use that... and there arent even 1million people on newgrounds. This is about the basics, the reason it is less-well animated is to not get the newbies hopes up. Didn't you hate it when you were new, and someone made some tutorial, and there like "This is how it should look like", and it doesn't work? Your like, "Thanks for getting my hopes so high! Just to let them fall all that way..." All in all, why did you not like the walking? You must not have seen it all the way through. If you didn't like my walking by the way, you should have seen some retarded thing about some stickman walking. I think this tutorial serves most of the basic things, keeping the audience generalized, instead of some random flash on how to make a planet rotate. That covers most of it. By the way, not everyone has filthy rich parents and live in beverly hills with there butlers giving them a birthday present which is a frickin' ferari. Some people can't afford frickin' camera's, or even flash. I had to make this using the tutorial... Thanks for being mean to the kid who just wanted to fit in.

I enjoy enjoying enjoyable things.
